A hospital in Mishawaka is seeking an experienced NP or PA with Cardiothoracic Surgery experience for a locum opportunity focused on OR support and first assist duties. Position: NP / PA Cardiothoracic Surgery (1st Assist) Location: Mishawaka Practice Type: Hospital-Based Cardiothoracic Surgery Program What makes this opportunity exciting • OR-focused role with 1st assist responsibilities• Perform vein and artery harvesting using the Maquet system• Provide inpatient rounding followed by surgical assistance in the OR• Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care• Perform procedures including chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, and wound care• Assist with cardiac rehabilitation coordination and patient recovery planning• Collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons, APPs, nursing teams, respiratory therapists, and cardiac rehab staff• Work in a multidisciplinary cardiovascular surgery environment EMR: Epic Schedule & Practice Details • OR-only role (1st assist)• Call coverage for OR only with callback if needed• Typical day includes hospital rounding followed by OR time• Average patient volume:• 10 outpatient• 5 8 inpatient Key Clinical Responsibilities • Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures• Perform vein harvesting and surgical first assist duties• Conduct pre-operative physical exams and patient assessments• Write prescriptions, order tests, and coordinate treatment plans• Provide inpatient and outpatient consultations• Complete discharge summaries and clinical documentation• Participate in multidisciplinary communication and care planning• Respond to emergencies using CPR and ACLS protocols Candidate Requirements NP or PA with Cardiothoracic Surgery experience Indiana license required at time of submission Experience in Maquet vein harvesting REQUIRED Must be able to perform 1st assist duties NCCPA certification (PA) or AANP certification (NP) Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required Recent NPDB Self-Query report required at submission Local candidates within driving distance highly preferred New graduates will not be considered Why Mishawaka, IN?
