In this role, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets and drainage systems that keep our community safe and functioning. This is an entry-level position within a career progression series, offering the opportunity to build your skills through on-the-job experience, classroom training, and increasing responsibility over time. What You'll Do: * Perform manual labor to support the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, stormwater, sidewalks, and related infrastructure * Assist higher-level technicians with tasks such as asphalt maintenance, stormwater pipe repair, concrete work, and signage installation * Operate trucks and equipment including dump trucks, flatbeds, pickups, Vac trucks, trailers, and other basic motorized equipment * Use hand tools, pneumatic tools, and other equipment to complete assigned tasks safely and effectively * Support work site setup and restoration, including traffic control, trench backfill, seeding, mulching, and general clean-up * Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition * Participate in classroom and field training to develop technical skills and advance within the career series * Respond to emergency situations and work on-call or standby as required Employment Status: Full-Time For the complete job specification, listing essential duties and desirable qualifications, go to Minimum Training & Experience Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate required for all levels. Level placement will be based on qualifications. Public Infrastructure Technician I: * Entry-level; no prior experience required. Works under direct supervision while learning required skills and duties. Public Infrastructure Technician II: * Two years of experience in construction and/or operation of construction-related equipment, or two years of experience that includes construction and/or maintenance of streets and/or drainage infrastructure, or two years of experience as a Public Infrastructure Technician I. Public Infrastructure Technician III: * Three years of experience in construction and maintenance that includes streets and/or drainage infrastructure and operation of related equipment, or three years as a Public Infrastructure Technician II. Necessary Special Requirements Applies to all levels: * Must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. * For designated positions, must obtain and maintain a Leon County Inmate Supervisory certification. Public Infrastructure Technician I: * Valid Class E State driver's license at the time of appointment. * Must obtain a commercial learner's permit (CLP) within three (3) months from the date of appointment. * Must obtain a Class A State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsement(s) within nine (9) months from the date of appointment. * Must progress to Public Infrastructure Technician II within 24 months to maintain employment. Public Infrastructure Technician II: * Must possess and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements. * Must obtain and maintain the following certifications * Maintenance of Traffic * Confined Space * Excavation, Trenching, and Shoring. * For designated positions: * Florida Stormwater Association Level 1 Operator OR DEP Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification. * Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level I certification. Public Infrastructure Technician III: * Must possess and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements. * Must obtain and maintain the following certifications * Maintenance of Traffic * Confined Space * Excavation, Trenching, and Shoring. * For designated positions: * Florida Stormwater Association Level 2 Operator * Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level II certification. Salary Range $16.1262 to $43.7596/hourly.
