Work also involves interaction with developers, customers, and other work assigned.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides inspection services, testing, and documentation for road and bridge construction projects.Investigates and documents citizen's concerns regarding roadway and drainage issues.Inspects County roadways and associated infrastructure and produces reports and determines need for repairs or maintenance.Provides inspection and documentation for maintenance activities performed by County and contracted forces.Maintains or assists in maintaining files and drawings.Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.Performs other duties as assigned by supervision. Qualifications and Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of college course work in Engineering or technical training in Computer Aided, Drafting and Design and Surveying. Two years of experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. Two years of experience with Microstation or similar software. Two years of experience using Microsoft Word and/or Excel. Experience and proficiency using Microstation or similar software Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word and/or Excel. Experience and proficiency? using FEMA Flood Maps to locate a specific parcel of property. Experience and proficiency performing minor plat reviews for conformance with the Shelby County Subdivision Regulations. Experience and proficiency using Shelby County GIS System to retrieve individual parcel and record map information from the system. Experience and proficiency organizing and maintaining files, plans, permits, right-of-way maps, and other highway department records in both hard copy and digital format Experience and proficiency providing public assistance with right-of-way and FEMA Flood Map information and research Experience and proficiency using surveying equipment to run level circuits, traverses, perform topographic surveys, calculate and set grades, keep and reduce field notes, both manually and electronically, and all other typical functions of a survey party chief Experience and proficiency managing ALDOT Federal Aid construction projects, including field inspection, and the timely preparation of reports, pay estimates, and collecting and maintaining the required documentation using the forms, formats, and procedures required by ALDOT or similar project engineering or inspection experience on projects Valid driver's license. Willing to work outdoors and in extreme weather conditions Willing to work throughout the county and on multiple job sites. Willing to work nonstandard hours and more than 40 hours per week when necessary.A combination of the following Certifications may be required and if the candidate does not possess them upon hire they will be required within a time period specified by the County Engineer.
