Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Utility Crew Leader performs skilled and technical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the City's potable water distribution and sewer collection systems. This position supervises work crews, ensures safe work practices, and assists in emergency response operations. Minimum Qualifications: * Education: High School diploma or GE * Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in water/wastewater utility maintenance and repair or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Licenses/Certifications: Texas Water Distribution C License, Confined Space and Trench Safety Training certification, Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Essential Job Functions: * Supervises and directs crews in water distribution and wastewater collection maintenance and repair activities. * Performs and oversees installation, repair, and replacement of water lines, valves, fire hydrants, sewer lines, and manholes. * Assesses and responds to emergency situations to minimize service disruptions and ensure public safety. * Operates and maintains heavy equipment including backhoes, vac trucks, dump trucks, and other specialized machinery. * Ensures proper placement of traffic control devices during work activities to maintain public safety. * Completes work orders, reports, and other required documentation accurately and in a timely manner. * Ensures compliance with safety regulations, policies, and procedures for trenching, confined space entry, and equipment operation. * Provides training, guidance, and leadership to crew members, fostering a culture of teamwork and safety. * Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public to provide excellent customer service. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of: * Water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance, repair, installation techniques, and utility cuts. * Operation, care, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment. * Safety regulations and practices related to trenching, confined spaces, and utility work. * City policies and procedures. Skills in: * Operating and maintaining heavy equipment. * Reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, and work orders. * Supervising, training, and evaluating the performance of assigned crew members. * Communicating effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public. * Managing time and resources to complete projects efficiently. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and involves exposure to hazards such as traffic, heavy equipment, and confined spaces. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting objects up to 75 pounds. The position requires operating heavy machinery and working in potentially hazardous environments with proper protective equipment.
