The Transportation & Freight Analyst is responsible for analyzing freight and small parcel shipping rates, negotiating carrier contracts, coordinating shipments, and ensuring compliance with hazardous materials regulations. This role plays a critical part in optimizing transportation costs across parcel, LTL, and FTL while maintaining strong carrier relationships and ensuring safe, compliant movement of goods.Key Responsibilities Freight & Small Parcel AnalysisAnalyze shipping rates across small parcel (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL), LTL, and FTL to identify cost-saving opportunitiesAudit carrier invoices, accessorial charges, and surchargesBenchmark carrier pricing and service levels across parcel and freight modesMaintain rate tables, zone/weight analysis, and support RFP/bid processesProvide reporting on transportation spend, trends, and KPIsCarrier Management & NegotiationNegotiate contracts and pricing with parcel carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) as well as LTL/FTL providersManage carrier mix and optimize service selection (ground, express, international)Evaluate carrier performance (on-time delivery, transit times, claims, cost efficiency)Identify and onboard new carriers to improve cost or service levelsAnalyze and optimize final mile / last mile carrier performance, balancing cost, service levels, and customer experienceSupport final mile carrier selection, RFPs, and contract negotiations including service level expectationsShipment CoordinationCoordinate daily shipments across parcel, LTL, and FTL networksSchedule pickups and manage dispatching at warehouse facilitiesEnsure proper labeling, routing, and documentation for all shipmentsTroubleshoot delivery issues, delays, and service failuresCollaborate with warehouse, customer service, and operations teamsHazardous Materials & ComplianceEnsure compliance with hazardous materials regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG as applicable)Classify hazardous goods and determine proper shipping methods and restrictionsInterpret and apply Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for correct handling, packaging, and labelingEnsure compliance for small parcel hazmat shipments (e.g., limited quantity, ORM-D replacement, lithium batteries, etc.)Maintain required documentation, shipping papers, and labeling standardsStay up to date on regulatory changes and ensure company complianceAny other duties as assignedRequirementsSkillsStrong understanding of small parcel carriers (USPS, FedEx, UPS, DHL) and rate structures (zones, DIM weight, surcharges)Experience negotiating parcel and/or freight carrier agreementsKnowledge of hazardous materials shipping regulations and classificationsExperience working with SDS documentation and hazmat complianceProficiency in Excel and transportation/logistics systems (TMS, parcel shipping software)Skills & CompetenciesStrong analytical and cost-optimization mindsetNegotiation and vendor management skillsHigh attention to detail, especially in compliance and billingAbility to manage high shipment volume and multiple prioritiesStrong communication and cross-functional coordinationEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or parcel shippingHazmat certification (DOT/IATA) preferredExperience in a 3PL or e-commerce fulfillment environment, familiarity with parcel audit tools and multi-carrier shipping systems, Experience with final mile carrier selection and management.
