Must-Have: 1 year of experience BLS certified through AHA Critical Care Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Description: The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services. This is done utilizing processes in accordance with hospital standards and department policies. The goal is to monitor and evaluate patient status. The therapist assesses and delivers care/interventions to patients in non-critical care areas. Care is provided with consideration to patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Computer entry is performed, physician orders are verified, and pertinent clinical information documented. Accurate documentation in the medical record is maintained according to policy. The therapist provides care effectively to patients in critical care areas. Mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive, is provided while monitoring and measuring patient parameters. Ventilator maintenance and setting changes are attended to while monitoring patient response to these changes. Effective communication with the healthcare team is a priority, demonstrating professional judgment in response to changing patient or departmental situations. As indicated, tasks may be delegated and supervised among appropriate staff members. Respect for patients' rights is acknowledged and demonstrated. Effective relationships are established with patients, their families, and medical staff, utilizing positive customer service skills. Consistent communication updates with the department are maintained. Support for departmental and hospital goals is shown through attendance at in-services and completion of variance reports. The therapist organizes, prioritizes, and performs skills appropriate for the patient population. Anticipation of patient and departmental needs is crucial. Other duties as assigned may include responding to code blues, RIT/CRIT calls, and transports in a timely manner. Participation in the mentoring of new personnel is expected. Monitoring quality and appropriateness of patient care is an ongoing responsibility. Participation in projects and processes designed to improve patient outcomes is encouraged. Independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical field is required. Coordination of activities among others may occur, though this does not include direct supervision. Engagement in work performed directly with patients and/or customers is essential.
