Description & Details: North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications, nominations, and inquiries for an Assistant Professor of Practice position in the Counselor Education program, with a primary focus on Addictions Counseling. This position will begin on August 16, 2026, or as negotiated. We welcome candidates with a primary specialty in addictions counseling and complementary experience in clinical mental health counseling, teaching, and program development. The successful candidate will contribute to NDSU's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and excellence in counselor preparation. We seek a collegial professional who enjoys collaboration with faculty, students, and community partners, and who is committed to supporting the development of a new addictions specialty track within our Counselor Education program. The Counselor Education program offers a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Our Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Counselor Education and Supervision programs are accredited by CACREP. We are hoping to grow our program and our ability to contribute high quality practitioners to the work force. We maintain an exceptional learning environment by balancing high expectations with high levels of support. Each year, we admit approximately 20 master's students and a selective, diverse cohort of doctoral students. RESPONSIBILITIES. This is a 10-month professor-of-practice position as a core faculty member in our masters and doctoral counselor education and supervision program. Responsibilities include coordinating the newly established addictions counseling track (providing day-to-day leadership, supervision, and administrative duties), coordinating internship field experiences, teaching clinical and addictions counseling courses (summer teaching may be available), advising, supervising students, and serving the university as well as the profession. Hiring Range: Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations. Minimum Qualifications: * Earned doctorate in counselor education and supervision (completed by start date). ABD applicants who will complete all doctoral requirements prior to the start date are encouraged to apply. * Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program or a non-CACREP doctoral degree in counseling earned prior to 2009. * Evidence of effective oral and written communication * Evidence of high quality teaching in higher education * Professional experience in addictions counseling * Must hold a current professional addictions counseling license (LAC or LMAC) or be license eligible as an LAC in the state of North Dakota at the time of employment * Demonstrated understanding of multicultural and advocacy issues, and the needs of underserved populations * Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with diverse colleagues, students, clientele, and the public Preferred Qualifications: * Licensed as an LPC or LPCC in the state of North Dakota * Shows potential for research and other scholarly activities * Two years of experience (beyond practica and internships) in addictions counseling * Leadership in appropriate counseling and/or addictions counseling associations * Professional experience in clinical mental health counseling, including work with dual-diagnosis populations. * The ability to diversify program areas in a way that ensures a sense of belonging, respect, and inclusion that supports the success of each member of the community Applicant Materials Required: APPLICATION PROCEDURES Review of applications will begin after April 15, 2026 and will continue until position is filled.
