Walton Family Foundation Fellowship in Research and EvaluationThe Cleveland Museum of Art's Research and Evaluation department supports an audience-centered, data-informed approach across the institution by developing and delivering research and evaluation projects related to the museum's current and desired audiences. Research and Evaluation seeks an Evaluation Fellow for the 2026-2027 academic year to support an evaluation project to measure the impacts of the latest iteration of the ArtLens Gallery (opening July 2026) on the visitor experience (ArtLens Impact study). Through the evaluation project, the fellow will experience nearly the entire visitor studies process at CMA, from evaluation planning to data collection and data entry to analysis and reporting. This fellowship will offer experiences both in visitor-facing and analysis roles - activities will include collecting surveys as well as quantitative analysis and visualization of the results.In addition to the ArtLens Impact study, the fellowship will also offer opportunities to participate in and experience other evaluation projects and institutional activities across the academic year, as well as join department meetings and workflows.The primary deliverables from this fellowship will be the creation of pre-visit and post-visit surveys, modeled after the 2017-2018 ArtLens Impact study but adapted for the newest ArtLens Gallery iteration, for the 2026-2027 ArtLens Impact Study, as well as contributing to the final report on the evaluation. The fellow will likely also assist in other department projects throughout the year to gain further skills and practice in study design, data collection, data analysis and visualization, and reporting. Schedule permitting, the fellow will attend a variety of meetings to experience the role of Research and Evaluation at the Cleveland Museum of Art.Since Research & Evaluation works with so many other departments at the museum, the fellow will have the unique experience to learn more about many types of museum careers. The selected candidate will gain practical experience in visitor-intercept data collection and quantitative data analysis methods, have opportunities to improve their communication, reporting, and presentation skills, and learn how visitor studies affects change in art museums. Through their projects, the fellow will establish greater competency in Excel and PowerPoint, learn to better interpret and communicate their research and findings, and experience the interdepartmental work of museum careers. Ideally, this fellowship offers a student already learning about evaluation, research, or visitor studies with practical, real-world experience of those skills.Eligibility RequirementsTo be eligible, applicants must:Be enrolled in an undergraduate (as a Junior or Senior) or graduate degree program at a college or university in the state of Ohio for the full 2026-2027 academic year (For the 2026-2027 academic year, applicants should either be a Junior or Senior undergraduate or in a graduate program; applicants must be attending a school in the state of Ohio).Be available to work 10-13 hours per week, not to exceed a total of 390 fellowship hours, beginning the week of Tuesday, September 1 and ending the week of Friday, May 7, 2027 (flexibility +/- one week is possible)Be available to work onsite at the CMA primarily Tuesdays-Fridays 10:00am to 5:00pm, with required regular weekend and evening availability as neededDemonstrate strong communication and writing skills, a friendly personality, the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and have a curious demeanorBe a problem solver who desires to interpret information, uncover actionable insights, and interact with both the public and other departments at the museum.To be a strong candidate, applicants:Should seek to apply existing academic knowledge of evaluation, visitor studies, or research to real-world projectsCan pursue a degree in a variety of disciplines including, but not limited to: Museum Studies, Program Evaluation, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Marketing, Business, Communications, Education, Data Science and Analytics, Statistics, Art, Art History, and History.Should demonstrate existing academic exploration of evaluation or related fields.Should have experience running quantitative statistical tests such as correlations, factor analyses, and statistical significance to apply to the analysis portion of the internship projectApplicants' availability to be in Cleveland during some or all of an academic institution's holiday breaks is strongly preferred, given that many of the core tasks associated with this internship will need to be completed onsite at the museum between mid-November and mid-January.Required Application MaterialsCover letterResume/CVContact information for 1-2 professional/academic references will be requested only if invited to interviewApplication Deadline: April 21st, 2026This fellowship will primarily take place Tuesdays through Fridays between the hours of 10:00am and 5:00pm but will require regular availability on weekends and/or evenings.
