Job Type:StaffJob Description:Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks a Dental Laboratory Technician as full-time staff for a new dental school in Joplin, Missouri. The College will serve patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area. The incumbent must be a motivated and engaged individual who is excited to help build an innovative and dynamic dental education program, educating the next generation of dentists. The candidate should have a strong desire to support faculty, staff and students and must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning and discovery.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Designs, fabricates, and repairs removable and fixed dental prostheses, including but not limited to: full and partial dentures, crowns and bridges, mouth guards, orthodontic, and other dental appliancesAssists clinical and preclinical faculty in student educationFollows standard operating procedures (SOPs), prescriptions, and instructionsAdheres to lab processes and procedures and industry standardsKeeps detailed records, forms, logs and reports to document actionsWorks with the Director of Simulation and the Dental Assistant Coordinator to maintain supply inventories and keep equipment in operating conditionStudies, evaluates and re-designs laboratory processes to improve quality of careStays up-to-date on advancements in the field of dental laboratory technician knowledge through continuing education, reading professional publications, talking with peers and networking with professional groups and forumsManages supply inventories, performs routine equipment maintenance and facilitates repairs in collaboration with the Director of Clinical Operations, Director of Simulation, and the Dental Assistant CoordinatorDocuments workflow processes and adheres to industry regulations and safety standardsExhibits the ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty, students, and staffDemonstrates time-management, organization, and prioritization skillsQualifications:Education at the High school diploma or equivalent level: completion of an accredited dental laboratory technology program preferredMinimum of two years working experience in a commercial or academic dental labTechnical knowledge of dental procedures, prescriptions and equipmentAdvanced knowledge with common computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) acquisition, design and fabrication software such as ExoCAD, Planmeca and various nesting softwareAdvanced knowledge of common acquisition and design workflowsAbility to conduct tests and inspect products for quality and performanceDemonstrated manual dexterity and precisionAnalytical and problem-solving skillsCommunication and collaboration abilitiesOrganizational and time management skillsReading comprehension and critical thinking abilitiesWritten and verbal communication skillsEqual Opportunity EmployerKCU is committed to promoting an equal employment opportunity workplace.
