Job Description

Primary Purpose:Help meet behavioral, physical, and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities insideand outside the classroom in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Assistwith the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including behavior management plans,coping strategies, self-regulation skills, social/emotional learning and instructional programs. Workunder general supervision of HONDA Director, LSSP and/or Behavior Specialist.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GEDValid Texas educational aide certificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to work with children with disabilitiesAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to access computer software programs to maintain documentationExperience:Two years' experience working with children, preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Student management1. Help manage the behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations andrestraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.2. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special emotional / behavioral,medical, physical, communication needs.3. Assume responsibility for actively teaching social skills when appropriate and providing a groupand/or individual lessons based on best practices.4. Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of assigned students as per their IEP and/or BIP.5. Maintain confidentiality.6. Participate in professional development programs to enhance learning, faculty meetings, and specialevents as assigned by HONDA personnel. 7. Collect, report, and submit data required by HONDA policy and procedures to meet state and federal guidelines. Examples of data collection and/or documentation include progress notes, FBA data collection samples, social skills progress, and classroom observations.Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
