Job Summary The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) serves in a dual role providing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and general supervisory oversight in a high‑complexity clinical laboratory setting. This position supports daily laboratory operations through pre‑analytic assessment of specimens, performance of blood collection, operation of selected laboratory equipment, and clerical/reporting duties. Under CLIA regulations, the CLS designated as General Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision of testing personnel, oversight of high‑complexity testing, and ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of laboratory results. Essential FunctionsLaboratory & Pre‑Analytic Responsibilities + Perform blood collection via venipuncture and capillary puncture, ensuring patient safety and specimen integrity + Prepare, receive, and assess specimens to confirm suitability for testing prior to processing + Assist with operation of selected laboratory equipment and basic troubleshooting as needed + Support clerical tasks and assist with ongoing data collection for workload statistics and laboratory reports General Supervisor Responsibilities (CLIA) + Serve as General Supervisor under CLIA guidelines for laboratory testing + Maintain accessibility (on‑site, telephone, or electronic) during assigned shifts + Provide day‑to‑day supervision of high‑complexity testing + Be physically present and directly supervise testing when high‑complexity testing is performed by personnel other than a California‑licensed CLS + Monitor test analysis and specimen examination to ensure acceptable analytic performance and compliance with quality standards Quality, Training & Compliance (as delegated) + Ensure all required remedial actions are completed prior to release of patient test results + Provide orientation and ongoing guidance to testing personnel + Annually evaluate and document the competency and performance of all testing personnel + Support adherence to laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements Required Skills + Phlebotomy and blood collection + Venipuncture and capillary puncture + Specimen collection and handling + Knowledge of laboratory workflows and pre‑analytical processes + Attention to detail and quality assurance Required Qualifications + Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license + Eligible to be designated as a High‑Complexity General Supervisor under CLIA + Minimum three (3) years of experience as a generalist in an acute care hospital laboratory + Microbiology and immunohematology experience strongly preferred + Comparable experience will be considered + Basic computer and keyboarding skills preferred Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Chester, CA.
