DescriptionPosition SummaryPrepares solutions, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens, charts and files laboratory data. Reviews and sorts drop off labs to ensure order specimen correlation. Tracks pathology and send out specimens to ensure completion of tests, charges and results into EMR systems.Position AccountabilitiesMaintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Collects specimens as directed and takes them to the laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens. Responsible for logging specimens into the laboratory accurately and timely.Evaluates the accuracy of received orders and specimens.Communicates with units, vendors, team members and providers as needed to address and resolve specimen issues.Maintains specimen location tracking to ensure timely flow of required records, reports, and statistics as directed. Labels and records all test tubes, specimen containers, logs procedures in a tracking system.Scans necessary documents with accuracy and quality while ensuring the integrity of the medical record.Receives and processes faxed orders and results. Evaluates and follows-up on the outgoing report fax log daily.Effectively navigates EMR and related software to find necessary information.Effectively analyzes pathology orders and results to ensure accurate and timely billing. Communicates with Director to ensure all charges are captured. Controls all incoming and outgoing labs ensuring processes can be completed without delay.Enters in EMR after registration process the orders and appropriate codes associated with specimens for pathology as needed.Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment. The following job accountabilities may be reassigned:Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff and other departments as well as other hospitals that use services.Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.Attends meetings as required.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.RequirementsMinimum Education - Bachelors Degree of Science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry)Required Certification/Registration - Registered PhlebotomistPreferred Experience - Related healthcare and/or coding experience
