This position manages daily operations of the school health office, delivers direct nursing care, and ensures compliance with district, state, and federal health regulations. The School Nurse promotes a healthy and safe learning environment by assessing student health needs, maintaining accurate medical records, administering medications, and responding to health emergencies. The School Nurse collaborates with families, staff, physicians, and community health agencies to develop and implement effective health programs and policies. This role also supports the district nursing team by assisting with coverage, supporting health-related programs, and providing professional development on health and safety practices.Qualifications: Possess or be eligible for a validDelaware School NurseCertification in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1220(a).Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)Registered Nurse LicenseCPR and AED CertificationCompleted 3 years of Clinical ExperienceBe able to perform essential job functions including exerting between 20-50 lbs. of force and assisting students with mobility and transitionsPerformance Responsibilities:Serve as school nurse and manage the office for the assigned building.Implement all school health and safety protocols.Coordinate with other school nurses and the district lead nurse.Manage the school nurse office and address all student medical needs, including medication administration, emergency response, and routine well-being assessments.Assist the district and medical community in developing health policies and programs.Conduct immunization clinics, physical exams, and vision and hearing tests as directed.Observe students regularly to identify health needs.Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records for all students.Report student health matters to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and agencies as directed.Assume care responsibility for injured or ill students/staff in the absence of physicians or emergency personnel on district property.Administer first aid following established procedures.Recommend health interventions for individual students to medical personnel.Enforce Board policies and state regulations on exclusion and readmission related to infectious diseases.Participate in professional development and maintain required licenses and certifications.Support school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards.Provide professional development on health trends and practices to staff.Support summer school programs and athletic event coverage as needed.Collaborate as a nursing team to provide district coverage during emergencies or when buildings lack coverage.Facilitate medically required intake and registration of new students.Attend student IEP and 504 meetings as needed.Perform other duties as assigned.Terms of Employment: Ten-month (10) full-time employee.
