# # # Position Summary Staff radiologic technologists are under the general supervision of the Radiology Supervisor/ Director of Imaging Services, and the clinical direction of the Radiology Medical Director. The technologist will perform diagnostic procedures at a technical level as outlined in the Department Policy and Procedure Manuals Job Responsibilities Obtains patient medical history from the patients, to include description of patient#s immediate discomfort and medical complains/symptoms. Verifies physician#s orders and relevant test results to confirm or negate suspected pathologies. Instructs the patient concerning procedures to be performed. Answer patient#s questions and attempts to allay patient anxieties. Cautions patient against movement, which could alter the radiographic results. Ensures that the examinations are performed to the standards established by the department policies and procedures. Prepares patients for procedure to be performed. Assists patient onto the table and positions patient according to type of procedures being performed. Sets up, adjusts, and align radiographic equipment, manipulates equipment during radiographic and fluoroscopic exams to direct and control ionizing radiation to specific patient body area/organs; programs and adjusts a variety of automatic equipment needed to produce images. Observes and demonstrates barrier precautions/infection control policies. Prepares contract media for patient administration prior to testing. Ensures that contrast media is properly injected in order to produce clearly outlined images. Injects contrast media only after completing successfully approved training course. Assists and monitors patient during examination. Recognizes significant complications and notes problems, complaints or occurrences. Notifies physician as needed. Stocks and prepares the examination room and equipment according to establishes protocols and maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the Department to assure clean and professional environment or all patients. Monitors the safe working conditions of all equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or appropriate maintenance department to assure that all equipment is in optimal working condition and ready for use. Completes routine workflow on examinations. Correctly marks information on images. Documents appropriate and pertinent information on the requisition concerning patient#s status and condition. May arrange patient transportation to and from the department to provide patient care. Correlates and prioritizes workload and is flexible as required for quality patient services. Performs other related duties to maximize department efficiency, utilize skills, provide cross training, and promote teamwork and excellent service. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and quality assessment monitoring. Provides patient/SO education and explanations of procedures being performed. Explains waiting times in excess of established protocols. Knows and takes appropriate action in a medical emergency. Communicates information thoroughly and concisely at the change of shift. Communicates appropriate and pertinent information to supervisor in a timely manner. Provides functions of supervisor or staff radiographer when required by staffing. General working knowledge of all PACS equipment and relate components. Ensures throughput of all examinations via the PACS system for diagnostic interpretation and physician viewing. # Education/Experience Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology. Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or Registry eligible is acceptable but passage of test must be completed within one year of graduation. Current license from the Indiana State Department of Health to operate ionizing radiation equipment. Maintains CPR Certification.
