Summary: + Works in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer to provide nursing leadership at the departmental and institutional levels; accountable for ensuring that nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research are carried out according to acceptable standards. Develops plans to meet the human and material needs of the department and organization on a short and long term basis. Responsibilities: + Regularly meets with direct reports to improve communication and to build productive relationships.Continuously communicates to the direct reports the importance of patient satisfaction, quality of care, and sound financial performance and champions our successes and priorities for improving performance in meeting and exceeding patient and customer expectations. Analyze employee satisfaction data & identify opportunities for improvement.Reviews Survey comments that are relevant and follows-up where appropriate. Analyzes the data and identifies opportunities for improvement. Shares data with staff and mutually identifies opportunities for improvement within the department's span of influence. Collaborates with the staff to develop action plans for improvement. Implements and follows through with action plan.Manages team and individual performance in alignment with the UPHS vision of service excellence. Drives patient/client loyalty and physician referral by ensuring staff under your supervision understand the UPHS commitment to service, their own work processes, and have the necessary skills to meet service conjunction with all stakeholders involved in the patient care processes, institutes operational changes based on data. Communicates, reinforces, and updates as necessary environment of care procedures, (e.g. safety, security, hazardous materials, emergency, medical equipment, and utility management.) Continuously improves unit/department operations to maintain and exceed internal/external regulatory compliance and achieve clinical excellence. Participates in and supports patient safety goals and initiatives.Partners with Leadership team in developing strategic plan and budget including 3-5 year strategic imperatives and measures of success and establishing annual strategic priorities and implementation plans. Facilitates this process in partnership with entity leadership. Ensures that annual strategic goals are linked to leadership's performance targets. Participates as a member of Leadership Team in the development of strategic capital and other resource priorities and manages them for maximum benefit to UPHS.Proactively develops change management strategy for major organizational activities and events. Implements change management strategy within Nursing and UPHS in alignment with UPHS objectives. Identifies and facilitates agreement of major messages which are consistent regardless of audience, credible and reflects UPHS' core values. Communication plans are effectively implemented. Ensures appropriate follow-up of major issues and manages routine and crisis communications throughout the entity/community as they arise. Demonstrates recognition of the systemic impact of employee communication and/or policy changes and solicits proactive feedback prior to implementation. Evaluates effectiveness of change and implementation plans.Provides vision and leadership for Nursing Practice Model. Participates in the selection, career development and annual performance review of Nurse Managers. In cooperation with interdisciplinary colleagues, assists in improving system-wide capability by capturing and sharing best practices across the Health System and benchmarking outside the Health System. Collaborates with other Clinical Directors and leaders in rapid and effective implementation of these best practices in ways appropriate to each health delivery setting. In collaboration with physician/surgeon and administration proactively promotes efforts to improve cost effective quality patient care.Leads the division in the development and implementation of capital and operating budgets using system wide standards and processes. Partners with Chief Nursing Officer in developing performance targets, reporting variances and creating remediation plans. Partners with Chief Financial Officer to provide financial planning and analysis. Ensures divisional practices are in alignment with UPHS supply chain management strategy. Assesses the potential market impact on current operations and proactively adapts programs/services to accommodate anticipated changes. Guides the development and on-going evaluation of divisional standards as they relate to clinical practice, education, and research. Participates in the development, implementation, and on-going evaluation of programs/services within the division. Collaborates with the Department of Quality and Outcomes Management to establish outcome oriented performance measures.Recruitment of competent staff to meet operational needs and who demonstrate the ability to be service orientated and align with the core values. Ensures proper orientation of staff to their roles, accountabilities and performance measures within introductory period. Encourages continuous growth and helps staff to realize full potential by identifying stretch objectives and creating learning plans. Effective and timely performance management such that it clearly defines work expectations. Addresses performance issues immediately and directly. Conducts performance appraisals annually. Ensures retention by having an employee retention strategy in place, maintaining positive employee relations and employee recognition.Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of current trends, laws and philosophies in regards to health care. Ensures that Entity utilizes consistent, effective processes for establishing and monitoring the credentials of its nursing staff. Ensure continuous survey readiness and employee safety.
