Laboratory Digestion Technician - Sparks, NV Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour Basic Purpose: Reporting to the Department Manager and under the general supervision of thedepartment Assistant Manager and Supervisor, this position performs duties related to theWet Laboratory tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence. * Weighing samples according to established procedures for the laboratory. * Accurately conduct routine and non-routine analyses of samples using the appropriate method. * Perform LOI analysis which requires the use of high temperatures muffle furnaces * Perform lithium borate fusion using gas fusion machines or electric fusion machines. * Digest samples according to written procedure without deviation unless authorized in writing by the Supervisor * Ability to handle various quantities of dangerous acids while following the strict safety requirement set in the laboratory * Provide technical support to the senior technician and lab assistants and may assist in training new employees * Prepare and document preparation of reagents according to written procedure without deviation * Perform and document quality checks at all stages of sample and material handling, halting production where necessary by Hold card and reporting problems/issues to the Supervisor * Report to the Supervisor / Manager about any operational issues that hinder production efficiencies * Operate, maintain and ensure calibration records are kept for equipment according to written instruction. * Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Digestion Technician position * Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE) * Provide input and feedback to corrective actions implemented in the department * Actively participate in hazard identifications and reporting - (MAIA) * Other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time Skills and Competencies: * Excellent English, verbal and written * Strong interpersonal, organizing and time management skills * Excellent attention to details and workplace/work-related safety * Precision in handling glassware, pipettes, and other laboratory tools is required, as wellas accuracy when measuring and pouring chemicals. * Ability to properly use and wear heat-resistant personal protective equipment (PPE),such as Heat resistant gloves or specialized headgear. * Able to work independently to complete assigned task and to follow writtenprocedures * Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members Education, certifications, and Experience: College or technical diploma with relevant experience in similar laboratory environment Familiarity with WHMIS Physical and Environmental Conditions: College or technical diploma with relevant experience in similar laboratory environment Here's a breakdown of what we provide: Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
