Job Title: McKinney Vento Homeless Specialist Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Lead Social Worker Pay Grade: Admin Pay 1 Dept. /School: Community Outreach Center Days: 187 Term: This is a grant funded position for up to three years contingent upon annual grant approval. Term: Funding Ends Aug 2027 Primary Purpose: Provide case management services to middle school students identified as McKinney Vento Homeless (MVG) designed to help improve academic performance and reduce drop out rates. Qualifications: Education/Certification: * Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or social service field work Special Knowledge Skills: * Knowledge of how to access community agencies and organizations Major Responsibilities and Duties: * Work with and positively impact identified at-risk children from varied backgrounds in conjunction with State Compensatory guidelines to prevent them from dropping out of school. * Make home visits and compile information that will be used in developing an intervention plan for homeless students and his/her parents with the goal of improving attendance and removing barriers to learning and school preparedness. * Assist homeless families with housing resources. * Serve as a channel of communication for relaying the concerns, thoughts, and attitudes of parents and the general public to school. * Report to the Supervisor of Student Assistance Services all students who meet homeless criteria. * Maintain a district wide list of students who meet homeless criteria. * Maintain a professional awareness of regulations regarding the McKinney Vento Act. * Implement and process the district wide homeless survey. * Assist students and parents in interpreting and completing necessary paperwork and application forms for local, state and federal services. * Assist homeless students with transportation needs. * Become knowledgeable of community resources and eligibility requirements. * Maintain confidentiality of all students and their particular situations and circumstances. * Assist professional staff with clerical duties relating to homeless students. * Transport students and families as needed in ECISD vehicle * Facilitate and manage the MV drop out recovery lab at the COC. * Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. Funding: 100% Title 1 Funds Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
