This position ensures accurate documentation, proper handling of protected health information, and efficient administrative support for healthcare operations.Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:Medical Records Management:Scan medical documents into electronic patient record systemsOrganize and maintain physical and electronic medical recordsEnsure all medical documentation is properly filed and accessibleVerify completeness of medical records and identify missing documentationMaintain accurate patient charts and medical history filesPatient Information Services:Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionallyVerify patient eligibility and insurance informationUpdate patient registration pages with current demographic informationVerify all third-party insurance information and coverage detailsObtain Medicare secondary payer signatures when requiredAssist patients with basic inquiries regarding their medical recordsRelease of Information (ROI) Processing:Process Release of Information requests from patients and authorized entitiesVerify proper authorization and patient consent for information disclosurePrepare and transmit medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulationsMaintain logs of all information requests and releasesEnsure timely processing of ROI requests within established timeframesAdministrative Support:Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information (PHI)Support Health Information Management department operationsCollaborate with healthcare staff to ensure proper documentationAssist with quality assurance activities as neededMaintain accurate work logs and productivity recordsRequired Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentCompletion of medical records technician training program or equivalent experienceBasic knowledge of medical terminologyUnderstanding of HIPAA regulations and healthcare privacy requirementsProficiency in computer applications and electronic health record systemsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesPreferred Qualifications:Previous experience in medical records or healthcare administrationKnowledge of medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT)Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systemsFamiliarity with insurance verification processesExperience working in Indian Health Service or federal healthcare settingsEssential Skills:Strong organizational and time management abilitiesAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyProfessional telephone etiquette and customer service skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionTeam collaboration and communication skillsProblem-solving and analytical thinkingAdaptability to changing priorities and proceduresPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periodsManual dexterity for computer operation and document handlingVisual acuity for reading and reviewing documentsAbility to lift and move files and records as neededCompliance Requirements:Successfully complete background check processMaintain strict confidentiality of all patient informationAdhere to HIPAA regulations and privacy standardsFollow all facility security protocols and proceduresComplete required training and orientation programsMaintain professional appearance and conductComply with all Indian Health Service policies and proceduresSecurity Requirement:Ability to obtain public trustTechnology Skills:Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Experience with electronic health record systemsBasic understanding of medical records databasesAbility to learn new software applications quicklyKnowledge of scanning and document imaging systemsCareer Development:Opportunities for professional development and trainingPotential advancement to specialized roles within health information managementContinuing education support for healthcare-related certificationsWorking Conditions:Location: Fort Peck Service Unit facilities (Verne E.
