LOCATION: 2855 Gramercy St. Houston, TX 77025 Some travel required as needed to nearby locationsPOSITION SUMMARYContributes to the organization by working closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advance, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes. The OA generally meets with the patient before the Ophthalmologist to obtain medical history and prepare the patient for the examination. Additionally, this position will perform surgical coordinator duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for properly stocking, preparing, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms during clinic.Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information.Prepare patients for physicians exam. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physicians preference.Assists with in-office procedures.Prepare and ensure all consent forms are complete and accurate prior to in-office procedures. Prepares and cleans room after procedure.Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician.Assists with preparing letters to patients and referring physicians.Assists with diagnostic testing.Follow-up on diagnostic tests when directed by physician.Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.Triage incoming calls, review all phone message and return calls in a timely manner.Scheduling surgeries and preparing all pertinent paperwork for surgeries by following all established surgery processes.Handling patients' related issues including but not limited to, scheduling, appointments, insurance verification and authorizations.Timely follow up on recommendations for patients' seen by on-call physician.Managing physician appointment calendar, emails and other correspondence.Responsible for front desk management while in clinic, including greeting patients, checking in and out, balancing collections, close out batches and reviewing appointment charges status reports at the end of each day.Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.Must meet and adhere to HEAs policies and procedures, uphold to the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality. If not BLS certified at time of employment, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment.EXPERIENCE Minimum 1-2 years experience working with ophthalmologist preferred.
