POSITION TITLE: Area Supervisor DEPARTMENT: School Nutrition Services WORK WEEK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday WORK HOURS: 7:00am - 4:00pm; Occasional evenings and weekends TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months SALARY GRADE 72: ($4,016 - $5,445 per month) KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Supervises school nutrition programs of assigned schools which includes food production and service, purchasing, storage, and inventory of food, supplies and equipment; facility management, sanitation, and safety; and nutrition education. ? Provide support and follow-up with school nutrition managers on fiscal management. ? Provide on-site leadership to school nutrition managers and staff. ? Provide support to school nutrition managers to help meet the federal and state guidelines and the requirements of the school nutrition service program. ? Conduct on-site visits and annual NCDPI breakfast, lunch and snack compliance program reviews at assigned schools. ? Conduct on-site Summer Feeding Program reviews. ? Ensure that safety and sanitation standards are met according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) standards and conforms to federal, state and insurance regulations. Monitors and collects assigned schools health inspection reports and identifies procedures to resolve problems or deficiencies. ? Assist school nutrition managers in preparing requisitions, correct food storage procedures and controlling inventories; review monthly inventories and communicate with school nutrition managers findings to correct deficiencies. ? Provide on the job training in school nutrition managers and staff expectations, promote excellent customer service skills, work schedules, equipment use or care, food preparation and service, cash management, accountability and record keeping procedures. ? Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Johnston County Public Schools, along with state and federal regulations relevant to the School Nutrition Department. ? Manage Personnel; advises and assists school nutrition managers and staff in resolving employee relation problems as situations arise; provides written disciplinary action procedures; provides recommendations of staff transfers; confers with Executive Director and/or Assistant Director of School Nutrition and other section leaders to resolve more complex problems; assesses and recommends proper staffing needs; meets with school nutrition managers and staff members as needed. ? Performs and conducts annual job performance evaluations for school nutrition managers in assigned schools; provides technical assistance to school nutrition managers in job performance evaluations for staff. ? Review and provide technical assistance with payroll of staff in assigned schools. ? Provide on the job training in software systems to school nutrition managers; LINQ Nutrition, Time Keeper and Infinite Campus. ? Establishes and maintains effective communication with school principals, other departments within Johnston County Schools, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. ? Assist in the coordination, planning, and instruction of workshops, meetings and training programs. Assist with catering events when needed. ? Directly supervises assigned Permanent Substitute. ? Directly supervises assigned Training Manager. ? Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use initiative. ? Ability to set priorities and allocate time so that tasks are completed and deadlines are met in a timely manner. ? Attends seminars, conferences, workshops, classes, lectures, ect., as appropriate to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the field of food services administration; reviews professional journals, attends association and professional meetings, and otherwise maintains contacts with food service professionals to facilitate exchange of information. ? Is on-call to handle emergency situations. ? Completes any other assignments/duties requested by the Executive Director and/or Assistant Director of School Nutrition. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: ? Associate's degree in food and nutrition, home economics, business administration or related field. ? Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Service Management, Business or related field; ? Minimum of 2 years experience in food service management in a commercial or institutional setting, or a related field; ? Or other equivalent combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: ? Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements; ? Hold and maintain certification in food service sanitation or obtain certification within three months of hire. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: ? Culinary background; ? Experience in K-12 Nutrition program operations and/or large volume dining; ? Fundamental understanding of local, state, and federal regulations governing School Nutrition Programs (National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, After School Snack Program, Summer Food Service Program). WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT Must be able to use a variety of office and cafeteria equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and food preparation equipment. Must be able to communicate effectively. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to fifty pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are mostly sedentary with occasional moderately heavy work. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work in an office and food preparation environment and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, external agencies, vendors, parents, and the community.
