FUNCTIONS: * Deliver care to the veteran requiring urologic care, urological surgery, or having surgery-related illnesses. * Work with multiple Divisions/Services throughout the facility to improve outcomes and efficiencies. * Collaborates on a frequent basis with nursing and others to facilitate the operations of the ICUs/wards/ECU, etc. to meet common goals. * Responsible for the structure and details of physician rounding schedules, and nighttime, weekend, and holiday coverage systems relevant to the care of the surgical patient. * Performs the administrative components of patient care management, such as: dictation of progress notes, OP reports, discharge summaries; signatures; and consultation referrals for both in-patients and outpatients; etc. * Participates in ward/ICU rounds, morbidity and mortality conferences, grand rounds, Joint Commission (JC) activities, and any other relevant activities. * Participates in quality improvement activities. * Provides clinical coverage as needed by the urology surgery team. * Meets continuing education requirements. * Establishes and promotes an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines. Fosters a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. * Provide surgical treatment for patients with urological dysfunction or diseases. * Supervise and train physician assistants, residents, and medical student trainees. * Participates in research activities in order to promote the delivery of emerging treatments to the Veteran population and for the advancement of science.
