Job Title Name: College Laboratory Technician **CONTRACT TITLE** College Laboratory Technician **FLSA** Non-exempt **CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION** The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Queens College seeks a full-time College Laboratory Technician (CLT) who will directly report to the stockroom supervisor and will be responsible for setting up and running the teaching laboratories courses. Some specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: - Oversee procurement and delivery logistics for laboratory gases, dry ice, and cryogenic materials. - Manage the acquisition of chemicals, biochemicals, and organic solvents for teaching laboratories. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date chemical inventories. - Provide technical expertise in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing departmental electronic and analytical equipment used in teaching and research laboratories. - Support the refilling and routine maintenance of NMR instrumentation with cryogens, including liquid nitrogen and helium. - Play a critical role in maintaining laboratory safety, instructional continuity, regulatory compliance, and the operational integrity of the department's major teaching and research infrastructure. **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience. **OTHER QUALIFICATIONS** - Demonstrated experience working in an academic, industrial, or research laboratory setting. - Knowledge of chemical inventory management systems, safe chemical storage practices, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, Chemical Hygiene Plan, hazardous waste, compressed gases). - Experience handling laboratory gases and cryogenic materials (e.g., liquid nitrogen, helium), including cryogen refilling procedures. - Lifting and moving of heavy objects is required - i.e. gas tanks, liquid cryogen tanks, dry ice, and equipment. - Experience supporting, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation, including NMR and commonly used teaching and research instruments. - Experience with procurement systems and vendor coordination, preferably in a higher education setting. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple logistical and operational responsibilities efficiently. - Ability to work independently while providing technical support to faculty, research staff, and students, with strong written and verbal communication skills. **COMPENSATION** $65,041-66,631 **BENEFITS** CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification.
