Job Description

The Child Watch Associate, working under the direction of the Youth Development Director, is responsible for conducting a safe, quality and age-appropriate small or large group experience for children and families in the Prime-Time program, consistent with the YMCA of Southern Maine’s core values and the needs of participants and the community.  Schedule: Starting the week of June 8th.Saturday morning: 8:30am-11:30am*Shifts and hours are subject to change.Location: 14 Old South Freeport Road Freeport, Maine 04032 United States Engages in activities that are consistent with the mission, goals and objectives of the YMCA.Is a positive role model for the children through good work habits, enthusiasm and a good attitude.Adheres to YMCA of Southern Maine personnel policies.Works in compliance and is familiar with the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy.Adheres to safety rules and procedures.Monitors the health and safety of the children including: maintaining the appropriate level of observation of the children and keeping the program area clean and safe.Organizes activities and routines for easy transitions for the children.Maintains accurate daily attendance records.Effectively manages challenging behaviors.Reports all incidents as required to the appropriate supervisor.Effectively assists children upon arrival to ease the transition to the program.Is cooperative with providing fill in assistance for co-workers as needed.Attends Childcare meetings as directed.Performs special projects as directed by the Child Care and Camp Director or Membership Director as applies to branch.Acknowledges parents and children in a courteous and professional manner.Exercises good judgment around areas of responsibility.Is an advocate to the Y by promoting our cause. Assists with the annual campaign by increasing awareness about the campaign within the Y community.Adheres to all Y Brand guidelines and receives prior approval for use and creation of any Y related social media from the Marketing department.Learn and actively utilize Employee Portal on a consistent basis.Other duties as required. 16 years of age or older.Experienced working with youth, preferred. Detail oriented; extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certified (YMCA will train).A criminal background check is required prior to hire. This will be paid for by the YMCA of Southern Maine.The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical Demands:PhysicalStrength: The position requires regularly lifting and /or moving up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Mobility: The position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, jumping. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
