Join the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (NDHHS) and play a key role in protecting communities across the state. These positions support Nebraska's mosquito and tick surveillance programs-efforts that help detect and monitor diseases like West Nile virus (WNV) and keep residents informed and safe. Through this work, you'll contribute to real-time public health data that: * Alerts communities when WNV is present so individuals can take steps to protect themselves * Keeps healthcare providers informed for better patient care * Helps local health departments and mosquito control teams decide when to take action * Tracks tick species and the diseases they may carry across Nebraska What You'll Do: In this hands-on role, you'll gain valuable experience while supporting important field and lab activities, including: * Sorting and processing mosquito samples for testing * Coordinating the submission of samples to the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) * Assisting with statewide tick surveillance efforts * Responding to public questions about West Nile virus and other vector-borne diseases * Supporting training for local health departments on surveillance practices * Participating in community education and outreach efforts Assignment Details: * Duration: May 1, 2026 - October 31, 2026 * Hours: 35 hours/week during the summer Why This Opportunity is Great for You: This is an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in public health, environmental science, biology, or related fields.
