Job Description Job Description Position SummaryThe Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating field crews engaged in heavy civil construction, including mass grading, site development, and installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain, and dry utilities). This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.Key ResponsibilitiesField Supervision & ProductionLead and direct crews in daily operations for grading and underground utility installationInterpret plans, specifications, and staking to ensure accurate execution of workCoordinate equipment, materials, and manpower to meet production goalsMonitor productivity and adjust workflow to maintain schedule and efficiencyPerform grade checking and ensure tolerances are met Underground UtilitiesOversee installation of water, sewer, and storm drain systemsEnsure proper trenching, bedding, pipe installation, and backfill proceduresVerify compliance with local, state, and project-specific utility standardsCoordinate tie-ins, testing, and inspections with agencies and inspectors Safety & ComplianceEnforce company safety policies and OSHA regulationsConduct daily tailgate/toolbox safety meetingsIdentify and mitigate hazards, especially around trenching and excavationsEnsure proper use of trench protection systems (shoring, shielding, sloping)Maintain a clean and organized jobsite Coordination & CommunicationWork closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other tradesCoordinate with survey crews, inspectors, and subcontractorsCommunicate daily progress, issues, and needs to managementAssist with scheduling and sequencing of work activities Quality ControlEnsure all work meets project specifications and quality standardsIdentify and correct deficiencies promptlyMaintain awareness of inspection requirements and ensure readiness Equipment & MaterialsOversee proper use and maintenance of heavy equipmentTrack and request materials, ensuring timely delivery to the siteMinimize waste and control costs Qualifications5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a leadership roleStrong background in grading and underground utility installationAbility to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakesKnowledge of trench safety and excavation standardsExperience operating or directing heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.)Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsOSHA 30 certificationCPR/First Aid certificationExperience with GPS machine control and grade checking toolsValid driver's license Physical RequirementsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 lbsAbility to work extended hours, including weekends as needed Work EnvironmentConstruction job sites with heavy equipment, noise, dust, and uneven terrainFast-paced environment requiring attention to safety and detail Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insuranceRetirement plan (e.g., 401k)Paid time off and holidays Company DescriptionF and P Construction is a heavy civil contractor based in Reno Nevada.
