Mission or goal of unit: The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is to both provide the Mid-Atlantic's most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services, as well as to create the finest training environment for the region's future Surgical Oncology Specialists. The Division is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.Chief purpose of this positionl:This position is open rank, an early- to mid-career collateral, non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Surgical Oncology Division. The faculty member should have clinical and research interests that complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. Clinical and research areas of particular interest should be in the treatment of benign and malignant breast diseases. The faculty member should also support the current Division's expanding efforts to provide excellent oncology surgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs, including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member should support the Division's commitment to teaching Surgery Residents and, Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students. ResponsibilitiesTeachingThe faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on Breast Surgery. ResearchThe faculty member must participate in clinical or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of Surgical Oncology. Research in the field of cancer disparities, translational oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics would be preferred. A record of publication in refereed journals or presentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty member is expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU's Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology to achieve these goals. ServiceThe faculty member will serve on University, Health System, and Departmental committees as requested by leadership. They will assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows among the varied specialties outlines above. Clinical Faculty member clinical responsibility will be in the care of the Oncology Surgical patients on the MCV campus of VCU, as well as community outreach satellite location(s).
