Job Description

The Iowa City VA HCS (VHA) is seeking a board certified/board eligible cardiology physician for a part-time VHA appointment with affiliation with the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine to serve as a Non-Invasive Cardiologist. Dual appointment: This is a dual appointment with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The incumbent is expected to work at the Iowa City VA HCS for 5/8ths and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 3/8ths. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: * Provide cardiology consultative and continuity care services at underserved or understaffed ICVA facilities through both virtual and in-person care modalities. * Conduct comprehensive consultation and management of cardiovascular disease states across inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings. * Participate in expanded telehealth services including Clinical Video Telehealth (VVC, CVT) and electronic consultation (e-Consult) to improve Veteran access to care. * Interpret echocardiograms, EKGs, Holter monitors, stress testing and cardiac computed tomography. * Perform and interpret transesophageal echocardiograms. * Perform clinical assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and management of acute and chronic cardiovascular illnesses, including ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests. * Provide consultation and support to nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, residents, and fellows. * Evaluate patients for changes in clinical status through in-person examinations or telemedicine encounters. * Document all clinical encounters in the electronic medical record with appropriate detail, assessment, and plan, including review and attestation of trainee documentation. * Participate in cardiology referral management processes to ensure timely and appropriate triage of cardiology consults. * Provide outpatient clinics for general and subspecialty cardiology patients, ensuring continuity and follow-up care. * Deliver patient education, family education, and staff education related to cardiovascular health, disease prevention, and treatment plans. * Support care coordination activities including consultation, referrals, follow-up arrangements, and interdisciplinary collaboration. * Adhere to VA standards for clinical documentation, patient safety, telehealth protocols, and workflow efficiency. * In all activities, the candidate is expected to work collaboratively with the affiliate (Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine UI Healthcare). In addition, at the affiliate, the candidate will: * Participate in appropriate college, department, and division education committees * Attend Divisional meetings and conferences at the affiliate * Collaborate with the University of Iowa ACGME offices/leadership to ensure proper education of medical students, residents and fellows VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
