Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION Provide Diagnostic assessments for students referred to special education. Provide needed services through the use of consultation, assessments, problem solving and educational settings Provide teachers assistance with interpreting instructional implications of evaluations Provide teacher training in instructional strategies, behavior management, and RtI PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, treatment facility personnel and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed Communicate and document all relevant information obtained from above sources as it pertains to the eligibilities and placement of students receiving special education. Coordinate the transfer placement of incoming and new special education students into the District. Comply with policies established by Federal and State Law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services Meet ALL timelines for completion of evaluation/assessment reports (SPP 11 Compliance Indicator) including special education students being discharged from the Facility. Plan and conduct staff development to ensure students gain access to TEKS- based curriculum and instruction and work in accordance with State and Federal education law Ensure that all instructional staff understands the delivery of differentiated Instruction as it applies to the students receiving special education services in an Inclusive setting. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in the IEPs Communicate, collaborate and assist the instructional staff in preparing appropriate Individual Education Plans (IEP) based on the knowledge of various special education eligibility conditions and the challenges to learning. Have a basic knowledge of curriculum in grades 2 through 12. Assist with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Attend weekly Team Meetings, respectively. Conduct assessments to include but not limited to psycho educational functional behavioral, autism, ADHD, etc. Administer, interpret, and provide appropriate psychological, intelligence and achievement assessment instruments in an expeditious manner to ensure that both student discharge timelines as well as special education timelines are met. Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations. Write Full Individual Evaluation Reports, using data from students' cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), administrators, support staff, parents, and outside resource personnel - SPP 8 Compliance Indicator (parent participation & involvement) Completion of Transition Surveys - SPP 13 Compliance indicator Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students Facilitate the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meeting to ensure compliance with eligibility, placement, review of Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Level (PLAAFP), development of appropriate grade-level Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), Schedule of Services (with the applicable recommendation of support, i.e. Related Services, In-class Instructional Support) and Transition Survey (if applicable). Complete all paperwork accurately and accordingly in esped (District-wide sped program). Participate in district and campus staff development, faculty meeting. Demonstrate interest in and initiative towards professional development Attend scheduled Evaluation/Assessment meetings at Region 20 and/or 13. Engage in professional growth opportunities to gain awareness of current best practices, technological applications and peer reviewed, research based strategies which accelerate student achievement. Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, facility members and community members Follow the Ki Charter communication protocol Maintain and update outlook calendar to ensure timely attendance at ARD meeting. Keep Special Education Director informed regarding campus special education programs/services needs. Present subject matter in accordance with the guidelines established by TEA, board policies and administrative regulations Plan and conduct continuous and on-going training sessions to the campus/district instructional staff pertaining to special education Serve as a resource to campus/district personnel for the interchange of information regarding special education program, rules, and local policies and procedures. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documentation as required Organize test and observational data to comply with policies established by Federal and State Law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in the area of assessment, placement and planning for special education services. Provide individual and/or group counseling for students. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and willing to take on various roles & responsibilities
