A related responsibility is for assisting radiologists or other medical specialists in performing fluoroscopic procedures. Employees in this classification operate stationary and mobile x-ray equipment for diagnostic purposes, taking chest, body section, and other radiographs.ResponsibilitiesProduces radiographs of the chest, abdomen, extremities, spine, and other anatomical areas using x-ray equipment in emergency, clinic, or hospital settings while maintaining age-appropriate patient sensitivity.Positions patients and obtains required radiographs following fluoroscopic examinations.Adjusts x-ray equipment angles and heights and positions patients correctly for each exam.Ensures radiation protection in accordance with age-specific safety standards.Calculates technical factors for each patient to achieve proper radiographic detail, density, and contrast.Transports patients to and from holding areas or other assigned locations.Operates portable x-ray equipment for bedside chest or other required examinations.Uses immobilization devices as needed while adhering to age-specific safety protocols.Assists radiologists and other specialists during fluoroscopic procedures.Supports physicians in administering contrast materials.Maintains all required safety standards.Assists supervisors in demonstrating techniques to radiologic technology students.Copies relevant clinical information from the medical record to the radiology request form.Utilizes appropriate HIS computer system functions and completes documentation for completed or incomplete procedures.Performs selected procedures in other radiology areas as requested.Rotates through department assignments as required.Participates in on-the-job training for specialized technical areas and attends in-service programs for new equipment or advanced techniques.Follows infection control policies and Universal Precautions.Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of assigned radiographic rooms, equipment, and accessories.Performs basic patient care duties and initiates life-support measures when necessary.Complies with all departmental, hospital, and safety rules and protocols.Maintains understanding of growth and development principles for all patient age groups.Assists registration staff with tasks such as quick registration, welcoming patients, and escorting them to treatment areas.Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings.Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).Performs all other related job duties as assigned.ExperienceGenerally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.Preferred ExperienceAt least one year experience as Radiologic Technologist EducationAssociate's degree in Radiology Technology is required. Any Employee who will be performing Point of Care and testing in the Operating Room, Neuro ICU, NICU, PICU, Pedi-ER, Cath Lab and/or Interventional Radiology areas, the educational degree must be verified at the time of hire. Minimum education level required to be verified is Associate's degree.CredentialsValid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 MUST obtain the required ARRT Certification by 12/31/2019. Employees who have completed training at JHS may be granted a grace period of 6 months upon hire to obtain the required certification. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
