Lead Laboratory Technician City of Hutchinson | Public Works - Wastewater The City of Hutchinson is seeking a Lead Laboratory Technician to support critical wastewater and water quality operations. This position is responsible for collecting and tracking samples, performing laboratory testing and certified analysis, supporting quality assurance and quality control, maintaining records, training staff, and helping ensure compliance with wastewater and water quality standards. What You'll Do * Collect samples from wastewater, wells, streams, manholes, and other locations * Perform laboratory testing and process control analysis * Support QA/QC functions and maintain compliance records * Maintain lab equipment and supplies * Train new technicians and assist with procedures and process improvements * Support audits, inspections, and departmental operations as needed Lead Lab Tech- 2026 Draft.docx Minimum Qualifications * Three years of directly related laboratory experience required * Associate degree in biology, chemistry, or related field preferred * Valid Kansas driver's license required * Ability to obtain a Class II Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification after two years of employment * Kansas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Kansas Water Laboratory Analyst Certification are helpful, but not required Lead Lab Tech Work Environment This role includes both laboratory and field work and involves exposure to chemicals, raw sewage samples, outdoor conditions, and other adverse working environments. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. What you will need for success: Education * Associate degree in biology, chemistry, or a closely related field preferred. Certifications and Licenses * Must be able to obtain a Class II Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification after two years of employment. * Kansas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Kansas Water Laboratory Analyst Certification are desired,but not required. * Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
