The School Psychologist supports the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success of students by providing specialized services that include assessment, intervention, consultation, and collaboration with educators, families, and community partners. This role ensures that all students have access to a safe, supportive learning environment aligned with state and federal regulations. Responsibilities Assessment & Evaluation * Conduct comprehensive psychological and educational evaluations to identify learning, behavioral, and emotional needs. * Participate in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). * Interpret assessment data and communicate results clearly to families, staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Intervention & Support * Provide individual and group counseling aligned with student IEPs or general education support services. * Develop and implement evidence-based behavioral, academic, and mental health interventions. * Support crisis prevention and response, including risk assessments and safety planning. Consultation & Collaboration * Partner with teachers, administrators, and parents to improve student learning and well-being. * Provide recommendations for classroom strategies, behavior supports, and instructional modifications. * Participate in Student Support Teams, Response to Intervention (RTI) processes, and other collaborative problem-solving structures. Compliance & Documentation * Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with district policies and state and federal laws (IDEA, Section 504, FERPA). * Assist in monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of IEP services. School Climate & Prevention * Contribute to initiatives that promote positive school climate, social-emotional learning, and student resilience. * Provide staff professional development on topics such as behavior management, mental health, and trauma-informed practices. Professional Development: * Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends, teaching methodologies, and curriculum advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars and professional meetings such as faculty and department/grade level meetings. * Collaborates with fellow teachers and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning experience for students. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree and NYS Certification in School Psychology. * Knowledge of assessment tools, special education laws, and evidence-based intervention practices. * Experience working in a K12 educational setting. * Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. * Patience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children. * Training in crisis intervention or restorative practices, preferred but not required
