Summary The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology & Gastroenterology is seeking a Board-certified/eligible Surgical Oncologist (GI focused) to expand the translational research within the department. Candidates must have clinical expertise and completed formal training in surgical oncology (CGSO fellowship). Candidates will join the Department and will participate in patient care and facilitate interdisciplinary team science. This faculty position is offered at the Instructor-level for one-year. During this year the candidate will have protected time to focus on translational research, integrating department's projects and their own work, and working closely within the GI Translational Lab, with the goal of transitioning to a physician-scientist faculty position immediately thereafter. Candidates will become members of one of the five major CCSG Research Programs - Molecular Medicine, Tumor Immunology, Cancer Biology and Evolution, Cancer Epidemiology, and Health Outcomes & Behavior, and will work closely with clinical and research mentors supporting their development and transdisciplinary research work. The position will be supported by 1) pilot funding; 2)access to the GI Translational Lab; 3) access to existing tissue and data resources; 4) numerous, collaborative and supportive faculty; 5) large patient volumes to support research; 6) outstanding shared resources that provide state of the art technology, as well as data science expertise; transition to a physician-scientist faculty position will include ongoing support, protected time and resources to continue work developed through the instructor position, and to support the Department's translational research goals established with the Chair and Research leadership. The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology & Gastroenterology is uniquely situated within a multidisciplinary, collaborative GI program that provides high quality care to patients in one of six primary disease sites: Colorectal, Gastroesophageal, Hepatobiliary, Pancreas, Peritoneal and Neuroendocrine. The Department includes 20 faculty members in GI Surgical Oncology, General/Acute Care Surgery and GI-Endoscopy, and 18 APPs.
