OVERVIEW JOB TITLE: Welcome Days LeaderLOCATION: St. Paul CampusPAY RATE: $16.50/HourHOURS: Varies The beginning of each academic year is one of the most exciting times on campus at the University of St. Thomas, and Welcome Days Leaders (WDL) play an integral role in that experience for our new students. This fall we expect nearly 1,600 new students to join our Tommie community. It is a gigantic transition for these students. WDLs play a critical role in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for this experience by assisting students in building connections, engaging campus events and resources, and understanding and supporting university values. Serving as a WDL is a highly visible role that offers an opportunity to develop your leadership skills and serve our community simultaneously. WDLs gain significant experience in leading others, teamwork, communication, and planning. These skills will serve any WDL in their future careers. We are looking for a vibrant team of Welcome Days Leaders ready to set the stage for an exciting year at St. Thomas, and to get our new students and returning students connected to one another, campus, and the resources we have at the University of St. Thomas. RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific position expectations include: * Act as a positive role model and informed resource to new and returning students. * Guide new students through Welcome Days programming and/or welcome returning students back to campus through Welcome Back Days programming * Provide support to an assigned group of approximately 20 new or returning students * Facilitating breakout sessions based on provided presentation or group discussion materials * Managing communications, attendance, and evaluations using campus platforms including TommieLink+, survey tools, and group chats. * Serve as a resource during Welcome Days around a wide variety of topics. * Support and be present for Welcome Days sessions to check students in, guide students to their next activity, and other duties as assigned. * Promote, remind, and encourage attendance at Welcome Days social events to new and returning students. * Build a working knowledge of campus and community support services available to students. * Develop an understanding of St. Thomas values and demonstrate them in action throughout Welcome Days. TRAINING & REQUIRED DATES: WDL training takes place August 25th 9:00am - 4:00pm. Welcome Days programming takes place August 31-Sept 8. 2026 Welcome Days Leaders will have responsibilities taking place at various times, including evenings, as well as weekend and holiday dates. Total hours worked for each WDL will be approximately 20-30 hours during that time, inclusive of training. If you have already had other commitments, please be sure to note your availability as well as any required days/evenings/nights that you are unable to work. For example, if you are an RA on campus, we encourage students to focus on their RA role, as the training for both programs overlaps making students ineligible. Preferred: Exceptional communication and facilitation skills; strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience building community across difference; willingness to be both a teacher and a learner; work ethic committed working in a team and independently. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
