Purpose of Position: The Mental Health Liaison & Academic Advisor plays a critical role in promoting student success and well-being by serving as a bridge between the college and community-based mental health resources. This position is responsible for identifying and supporting students with mental health needs by facilitating timely referrals to the local Community Services Board and other appropriate support agencies, while maintaining a student-centered and confidential approach. In addition, the role supports the academic advising team by providing holistic advising services, assisting students with academic planning, course selection, and navigating institutional processes. This position requires strong collaboration with faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure coordinated care and student support. The ideal candidate demonstrates the ability to respond effectively to student needs while providing proactive, holistic advising, exhibits empathy and sound judgment, and contributes to a supportive, inclusive environment that promotes both academic success and overall well-being. Minimum Qualifications: * Master's degree in Education, Human Services, or equivalent experience. * Prior experience in mental health case management. * Prior experience in a higher education setting. * Experience supporting diverse populations and handling sensitive and confidential situations and information. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff across diverse backgrounds. * Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, particularly when supporting students experiencing academic or personal challenges. * Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and compassionately with students, faculty, staff, and community partners while providing high-quality, student-centered service. * Working knowledge of mental health awareness, including recognizing signs of distress, applying basic intervention strategies, and facilitating appropriate referrals to campus and community resources such as the Community Services Board. * Understanding of FERPA regulations and the ability to appropriately balance student privacy with coordination of care and support services. * Knowledge of academic advising principles, including degree planning, course selection, student success strategies, and institutional policies and procedures. * Ability to communicate effectively-both orally and in writing-with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing crisis or hardship. * Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and the ability to build trust and rapport with students. * Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism. * Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities, including advising caseloads and referral coordination. * Ability to collaborate effectively with internal departments and external agencies to ensure coordinated and holistic student support. * Proficiency in computer systems, including student information systems, database management, Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace. * Ability to collect, track, and report student data related to advising and referrals in a clear and structured format. * Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, respond to emerging student needs, and function effectively in a dynamic, student-centered environment. * Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies, procedures, and relevant regulations in both advising and student support contexts. * Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes student success, well-being, and equitable access to resources.
