Join Novant Health as a Pathology Support Technician I, where your administrative precision directly supports life-saving diagnoses and patient care. ️ Your Mission: Working under the guidance of the Anatomic Pathology Manager and Pathologists, you'll be the go-to expert for managing send-out requests, maintaining critical pathology records, and ensuring full regulatory compliance. What You Bring: * High school diploma or GED, required * 2 Year / Associate Degree in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science, preferred. * One year of relevant pathology and/or cytology specimen processing experience, preferred. * Administrative or clinical support experience in healthcare or pathology, preferred * Strong attention to detail and communication skills * Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion Why Novant Health? * Supportive, mission-focused culture * Professional development opportunities * Comprehensive benefits: health, retirement, tuition support & more * A place where your work truly matters-to patients, providers, and the care team What You'll Do * Process and track pathology send-out requests (slides, blocks, records) * Communicate with physicians/requestors to collect or clarify information * Respond appropriately to legal requests, ensuring HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA compliance * Maintain meticulous records per CAP and NHLS retention policies * Coordinate shipping via FedEx and other carriers * Provide timely updates and top-tier service to support Novant Health's clinical teams * May be responsible for assisting in autopsy and preparing sections of body tissue for examination by a pathologist to diagnose body dysfunction and malignancy. This includes the preparation of tissue specimens of human origin for diagnostic or teaching purposes. * Occasionally travels to community hospitals for assistance with frozen sections. Includes weekend and holiday on-call (rotating assignment). Help power the precision of pathology. Your accuracy shapes outcomes. What We're Looking For * Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science, preferred. * Experience: One year of relevant pathology and/or cytology specimen processing experience, preferred. * Licensure/Certification: * Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. * Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. * Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. * Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. * Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. * Ability to follow written protocols. * Ability to follow written protocols. * Ability to work independently. * Ability to communicate clearly.
