This position is for the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Pediatrics. The research technician in the lab will have the opportunity to explore how the bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, establishes a home in the human host and make discoveries about how the bacteria interacts with host cells, membranes, and the immune system. They will work under a physician-scientist PI who has clinical expertise in infectious diseases. The research technician will learn new experimental techniques and will perform experiments that the PI desires to further the understanding of ventilator-associated infections in children. They will process clinical samples for future experiments. They will also be encouraged to propose and perform their own experimental ideas to further the knowledge of ventilator-associated infections. Studies performed in the lab that the research technician will perform include basic microbiology experiments, like growth curves and phenotyping, bacterial competition assays, in vitro human cell culture experiments, mouse infections, and DNA and RNA sequencing and analysis. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment.
