Ensure work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids.Policy, Reports, and LawEnsure compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Budget and InventoryDevelop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary.Initiate purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.Approve and forward invoices and purchase orders for maintenance department to accounting department.Personnel ManagementSelect, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.Prepare, review, and revise maintenance department job descriptions.SafetyMaintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and district requirements and develop a program of preventive safety.Ensure equipment is maintained in optimum operating condition.Energy ManagementAnalyze energy usage and conduct needs assessment for improvement of energy management procedures, equipment, and systems. Make recommendations for changes based on findings.Negotiate rates with local and regional utilities.Develop and implement control strategies in building automation software to increase energy efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems.Work cooperatively with building principals and facilities directors to support use of school facilities for extracurricular activities in a manner consistent with energy management guidelines.Oversee the installation, repair, and modification of energy management equipment in district facilities. Recommend the disposal and replacement of obsolete equipment when needed.Develop and implement the district's recycling and hazardous waste program. Make presentations on resource conservation to students, faculty, and civic groups and coordinate energy conservation activities with community groups.
