Job SummaryThe Plant Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment used in a coal preparation plant. This role supports safe and continuous plant operations by ensuring all electrical components function reliably and in compliance with MSHA, company, and regulatory standards.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, and repair electrical systems including motors, MCCs, PLCs, VFDs, lighting, and control circuitryTroubleshoot electrical issues in processing equipment such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, centrifuges, and belt drivesPerform preventive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and ensure optimal equipment performanceRead and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and technical manualsWork closely with operations and maintenance teams to support plant production goalsEnsure all work complies with MSHA, OSHA, NEC, and company safety standardsInspect electrical equipment for hazards, defects, or code violationsParticipate in safety meetings, audits, and training programsMaintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activitiesRespond to emergency troubleshooting needs during breakdowns or outagesRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredMinimum 3-5 years of industrial electrical experience, preferably in mining, coal preparation, or heavy industryStrong working knowledge of:480V and medium-voltage systemsMotor controls and power distributionPLC troubleshooting. Programming is preferredAbility to read electrical blueprints and schematicsValid driver's licenseAbility to pass MSHA-required training and physical examsPreferred QualificationsMSHA Part 48 certificationKY Electrician license or equivalentExperience with variable frequency drives (VFDs)Knowledge of conveyors and process plant automationWelding or mechanical aptitude is a plusPhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to work in a coal processing environment with exposure to dust, noise, heat, and outdoor conditionsAbility to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spacesAbility to lift up to 50 lbsWillingness to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as requiredSafety CommitmentSafety is a core value.
