The Assessment Clinician I conducts insurance pre-certifications for individuals evaluated and may provide assessment services for various patient populations including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. UofL Health Medical Staff and Board of Directors under the EMTALA policy consider Assessment Referral Center Clinicians who are employed by the hospital, and qualified to perform emergency screening exams/assessments by education, experience, and demonstrated current competence, as "Qualified Medical Persons" to conduct emergency behavioral health and substance use screening exams.Essential Functions:Evaluates individuals seeking behavioral health/substance use treatment and seeks justification for admissionConducts evaluations at local hospitals, UofL Peace Hospital and other community agencies and facilitiesRefers patients to appropriate services and assists in the intake process for those patients admittedDetermines provisional diagnosis and discusses treatment recommendations with patient, family, and medical providersCoordinate's level of care expectations with physicians, Assessment Referral Center, personnel, patient care units, and external agenciesDevelops relationships with community partners by consistently providing quality services.Assess the patient's psychological, social and treatment needs through analysis of data collected from patients, their families, collateral sources such as school, outpatient therapist, and community providersEstablishes provisional diagnosis based upon thorough level of care assessment. Records and communicates clinical information to physician, interdisciplinary treatment team as indicatedPerforms insurance prior authorizations for patientsPresents detailed clinical information to medical providers, as well as collaborating with nursing staff to assess for most appropriate level of care and medical needs of the patientOther Functions:Maintains professional development and educationDemonstrates proficiency and skill in determining most appropriate level of care, provide referrals based on clinical assessments, communicating relevant information to patient and family regarding treatment programs and patient rights issuesDemonstrates effective understanding of legal issues associated with assessment and/or admission for voluntary status, EMTALA and Mental Inquest Warrant processesProvide assessment services for various patient populations including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric as neededMaintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conductComplies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all timesPerforms other duties as assignedAdditional Job Description:Education and Experience:(1) Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Family and Marriage Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or other related fields required.Experience:One year of experience in mental health field and previous experience in crisis intervention or an assessment/diagnostic setting (preferred)Licensure:Valid Driver's License (required for Mobile Assessment Clinicians only)Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)Facility-provided Safe Crisis Management training (required)Job Competency:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities critical to this role:Psychology - Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.Therapy and Counseling - Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people.Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
