Position Details Expiration Date Open Until Filled Department MC Surgery Position Type Professional Location Shreveport Description The incumbent will serve to facilitate research within the Department of Surgery. They will assist the Director of Surgical Research with research experiments and activities. Their duties will include: * designing and conducting research projects, * keeping a detailed record of research results, * analyzing research data, * preparing manuscripts for publication * participating in research meetings and other training activities, * assisting in supply orders and maintaining laboratory spaces, * maintain and update research databases, and * assist staff, students, and residents with research activities. The work hours are generally Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Additional hours may be required (exact hours should be modified as appropriate). Lunch/breaks are dictated by workflow. The incumbent must have good management, communication, organizational and administrative coordinator skills, as well as a strong ability to think critically. A high level of technical computer skills is also required. This person must be able to work independently and to establish priorities for the ongoing work of this office. This position is supervised directly by the Director of Surgical Research and indirectly by the Department Chairman and Business Manager. Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position. Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur so that customer satisfaction is always met. Essential Position Functions & Duties 60% Coordination of Grants, Clinical Trials, IRB Documents, and Manuscripts * Manage faculty, resident, and student research (conduct, design, data analyses, IRB * submissions, regulatory compliance, grant writing, and submissions). * Conduct literature searches using PubMed via the LSUHSC library, the physical library, archives, and other sources of information to collect relevant materials about scientific publications and presentations. * Ensure that all study activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the LSUHSC Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). 25% Annual Resident Research Projects * Provide training and support for Surgery residents annual research projects and presentations. * Assist in the preparation and submission of related regulatory paperwork, publications, and presentations. * Work in conjunction with the Surgery Graduate Medical Education Program Director and Program Administrator to assist residents as needed with research requirements. 10% Lab Management * Assist PI in hypothesis-driven research experiments. Provides technical support as needed. * Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the policies and procedures for lab safety. * Coordinate supply orders and maintain lab spaces. Non-Essential Position Functions & Duties 5% Marginal Functions (5%) * Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. * Maintain documentation of all duties within the department's shared drive. Qualifications Applicant must meet one of the following qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university in a science-related field with at least one (1) year of experience in a laboratory, OR research experience. * Medical degree from an accredited university with at least one (1) year of experience in a laboratory, OR research experience. * PhD degree or PhD candidate from an accredited university with at least one (1) year of experience in a laboratory. Preferred Qualifications * Experience with research regulatory requirements (IRB, Shields, etc.), statistical data analysis, research project management, poster preparation and presentation, and/or manuscript preparation. * Excellence organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain detailed records. * Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. * Master's degree in healthcare or science related field.
