Job Title: Substitute Child Care Provider Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Child Care Director Pay Grade: $15.38+ per hour Dept./School: Child Care Center Date Revised: 02/03/2025 PRIMARY PURPOSE Assist in the management and supervision of an assigned classroom in the absence of the regular child care provider. Support the delivery of developmentally appropriate instruction and ensure a safe and nurturing environment for children. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification: * High school diploma or GED Special Knowledge/Skills: * Ability to work effectively as a member of a team * Ability to interact positively with children, staff, and parents * General knowledge of child development Experience: * None required MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Child Care * Supervise children in the classroom and on the playground to ensure their health and safety. * Lead or assist the lead teacher with lesson plan activities and structured learning groups. * Maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom environment. * Ensure each child receives individual attention and provide positive guidance to support self-discipline. * Coordinate with coworkers to ensure smooth daily operations. * Assist with food preparation as assigned. * Maintain positive and open communication with children and parents. Safety and Sanitation * Oversee activities of student workers, observers, substitutes, and volunteers when assigned. * Maintain organization and cleanliness of the classroom. * Follow established procedures to meet health, safety, and sanitation standards. * Maintain sanitary conditions for garbage and diaper collection areas. * Correct unsafe conditions or report issues that cannot be immediately corrected. * Maintain appropriate personal appearance and hygiene. * Administer medication as directed and in accordance with policy. * Follow emergency evacuation procedures during drills or actual events. Other * Promote teamwork and positive working relationships with staff. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None; may provide technical oversight to others on occasion. MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Tools/Equipment Used: Cribs, changing tables, walkers, baby buggies, and standard classroom equipment. Posture: Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Lifting: Must be able to lift and carry children up to 40 pounds and safely lift infants to changing tables. Environment: Work inside child care environment with typical classroom noise levels; may operate in a multitask setting. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress and demonstrate patience and attentiveness while supervising children.
