Behavior Paraprofessional Reports to: Campus Principal and Director of Special Services Supervised by: Behavior Teacher and/or Special Education Teacher Dept./School: Assigned Campus Exemption Status: Nonexempt Pay Grade: Paraprofessional Days: District Work Calendar (per district compensation plan) (10 Months) Primary Purpose Assist in the implementation of instructional programs and behavioral interventions for students with significant emotional, behavioral, and social needs. Support students in self-contained, special education, and general education settings to promote academic progress, behavioral regulation, and social skill development under the supervision of certified staff. Qualifications Education/Certification High school diploma or GED required Educational Aide certification (as required by Texas Education Agency) Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning* CPI or district-approved crisis intervention training (preferred or able to obtain upon employment) Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and classroom management techniques Ability to follow Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) Ability to implement de-escalation strategies Ability to work with students exhibiting challenging behaviors Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to collect and document behavioral and academic data Experience Experience working with children with behavioral or emotional disabilities preferred Experience in special education setting preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Support Assist the teacher in implementing instructional activities and lesson plans. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students. Support students in completing academic tasks in self-contained and inclusion settings. Reinforce accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs. Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom resources. Behavioral Support Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) as directed by the teacher. Provide support to students during transitions throughout the school day. Monitor student behavior and intervene using approved de-escalation strategies. Assist with crisis intervention in accordance with district training and policy. Support students in developing self-regulation and social skills. Data Collection and Documentation Collect and document behavioral and academic data as directed. Maintain accurate records of student performance and behavior incidents. Report concerns regarding student progress or safety to supervising teacher promptly. Collaboration and Communication Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff. Communicate professionally with parents when directed by a supervising teacher. Attend ARD meetings when requested. Safety and Supervision Supervise students in the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, and other campus settings. Assist with maintaining a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. Follow district procedures regarding physical intervention, restraint, and safety protocols (if applicable). Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA. Participate in required professional development and training. Comply with district policies and administrative procedures. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking and reaching Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases) Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress*Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
