Job DescriptionPosition OverviewThe primary purpose of this position is to support Dr. Lewellyn in the research being conducted in her lab. In addition to planning and executing experiments related to Dr. Lewellyn's research aims, the research assistant will help with general lab maintenance and mentoring of undergraduate research students.This is an on-site, in-person position, Monday through Friday. Please submit a cover letter and resume for full consideration.Responsibilities Fly maintenance and husbandry General lab maintenance - media and solution preparation, autoclaving, stock maintenance, monitoring lab inventory, help develop and maintain databases of bacterial, plasmid, and fly stocks Perform basic lab experiments (fly genetics, molecular biology, basic biochemistry, immunofluorescence, quantitative image analysis) Train and supervise undergraduate student researchers on lab techniques or data analysis Maintain a detailed lab notebook Develop and troubleshoot lab protocols Required Qualifications B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field 2+ years research experience Experience with Excel Strong organizational and communication skillsPreferred Qualifications Experience working with fruit flies or other genetic model organisms Experience with molecular (PCR, qRT-PCR, restriction digest, gel electrophoresis, RNA extraction, CRISPR-based editing) and/or basic biochemistry (Western blot, immunoprecipitations) techniques, fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, solution making and sterile technique Ability to multitaskBU Benefits and Perks Please check out Butler's Total Rewards website to learn more about our benefit offerings, which include: Paid Time Off and Holidays: 18 days of paid time off (vacation and PTO days) per Fiscal year 8 Paid Holidays In addition, a paid Winter Break between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day Paid Parental Leave (after 1 year of full-time employment) Health: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans including disability and life insurance programs Retirement: 10% employer contribution after 1 year of full-time employment Tuition Assistance: Tuition Exchange Program for Dependents Remission of tuition for classes taken at Butler for employees, spouses, and dependent children.
