General Summary Applicants must qualify for work-study funds from Financial Aid. Starting rate for new hires is $16.00 per hour. Up to 20 hours per week across all student positions. SELECTION PROCESS Preliminary screening will be made on the basis of completed application package submitted by candidate. Primary Duties The primary job duties of the psychology lab assistant work study students includes attending lab sessions and assisting the psychology instructor leading the session. This can include tracking attendance, facilitating small group discussion, and assisting with grading of lab work. Lab session work typically results in approximately 3-9 hours per week. Additional work is available, up to 20 hours per week and is flexible in scheduling. This may include assisting with prepping class materials, research related activities, and other experiences tailored to the student's interest within the field of psychology. This work study is a mentor opportunity aimed at helping a student develop skills within the field of psychology. Training will be provided so that students can effectively perform their job duties and they will work closely with a faculty member to identify individual goals for additional experiences. Due to the nature of the training that is provided with this work study position within the areas of lab instruction and research methodology, it is highly recommended for students to be psychology majors or interested in pursuing psychology as an academic discipline. Preference is given to students with some psychology coursework, but all interested psychology majors are encouraged to apply. Our typical lab hours for psychology labs are Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evenings and Friday mornings, but the schedule varies. Work scheduling outside of labs is flexible. Required Competencies In your cover letter, please provide details regarding your interest in psychology, future goals, and what you hope to accomplish through this work study experience. In addition, please provide documentation of previous academic history, including course work experience and grades. If you have college coursework, please provide information of that coursework and the grades you earned. If you are a first semester freshman with no college experience, you may provide information from high school. Qualifications * Must be a FRCC student enrolled in at least 6 credits for the current semester * Applicants must qualify for work-study funds from Financial Aid. * Psychology majors or minors preferred * Knowledge of basic concepts of introductory psychology * Interest in growing skills in the discipline of psychology * Minimum GPA of at least 3.0 (please provide documentation of college or high school academic history) * Attention to detail * Good verbal and written communication skills * Customer service skills * Time management * Integrity * Teamwork * Responsibility * Motivation Notice to Prospective Employees: Front Range Community College is required by the Clery Act of 1990 to notify prospective employees, current employees, students and applicants where to access our Campus Security Report.
