Department: Facilities Management Salary: $29,995 - $33,779 Description: Job Summary The Labor Technician relocates and sets up furniture, and performs other miscellaneous functions in support of university events and projects. Duties * Relocates, organizes, and sets up furniture * Assists with event set-ups * Assists carpenters, painters, and electricians * Provides assistance as necessary in the A/C shop * Cleans construction sites * Operates machinery as necessary to complete tasks Marginal Duties * Performs all other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities Direct Reports: * None Delegation of Work: * N/A Supervision Given: * N/A Qualifications Required Education: * High School Diploma or equivalent Required Experience: * Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience License/Certification: * Must maintain a valid, current driver's license Preferred Qualifications * None Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: * Knowledge of general safety protocols in a public area, and of the related trends, issues, and accepted practices Skills: * Strong organizational and problem solving skills * Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Abilities: * Ability to follow instructions * Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Work Location and Physical Demands Primary Work Location: * Works in maintenance and custodial rooms Physical Demands: * Work involves moderate exposure to unpleasant elements, such as adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, dirt, dust, fumes, and airborne particles * Position requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, climbing, and frequent reaching * May, on rare occasions, be required to work in a confined space, in a high, dangerous place, or be exposed to vibration * Must have precise hand-eye coordination, good spatial awareness, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors * Must have the ability to move items of up to 100lbs All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.
