Job Description

We are currently looking for a Part Time 38 Intern Technician to join our Laboratory Group team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.Summary:Provides clinical laboratory services as scheduled by the Laboratory Manager. The position requires the incumbent to perform moderate complexity testing with minimal supervision.Responsibilities:* Obtains adequate and proper specimens from patients for laboratory testing* Instructs patients on proper test collection and preparation* Treats all patients and family with care and respect and maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees to facilitate quality patient care* Orders and accession laboratory tests through the laboratory information system and assist other personnel with laboratory test orders* Assists the Laboratory Clerk/Medical Technologist with non-technical tasks and clerical duties* Follows laboratory quality control and quality assurance protocols. Documents all quality control activities* Assesses test results and reliability of testing procedures and identify instrument malfunctions, reagent failures, specimen interference, etc., that may affect test results* Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, tests analyses and reports and maintains records of test results* Performs and documents instrument and procedure calibrations, maintenance and troubleshooting* Maintains knowledge of the administrative area of the laboratory, i.e. specimen accession and reports for referred testing, files, etc.* Communicate as needed with medical and nursing staff on proper specimen collection, preservation and transportation of specimens and provide patients with instructions regarding specimen collection, diet instructions, etc.* Performs laboratory testing for specimen processing and test performance* Assigns results and conducts further examinations or take additional or alternate actions as appropriate* Provides first class customer service to both internal and external customers and responds to inquiries, compliments, and/or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency* Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities* Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types- Maintains a clean, organized work area and ensures a safe environment- Maintains and promotes professionalism- Punctual and consistent in meeting start time, work schedule, attendance and other assigned work time metrics- Adheres to Chickasaw Nation dress code standards* Maintains knowledge of and follows all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines for assigned area* Performs all other duties as assignedCompetencies:Essential:* Able to follow instructions, both written and oral * Able to adhere to all scheduling and attendance requirements* Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in all matters* Must be detail-oriented* Ability to work independently* Honesty, truthfulness, reliability, accountability* Able to read, understand, apply, and retain knowledge of Chickasaw Nation, departmental, divisional and all other rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines* Possess basic knowledge of medical terminology* Organizes work and assigned area logically and orderly* Establishes professional working relationships as appropriate* Organizational and time-management* Ability to plan, organize and follow through on assignments* Able to verbally communicate in a professional and positive manner with other team members, departments, guests and managementSkills:Essential:* Basic Computer skills* Skilled in operating a computer and/or other equipment related to specific role (i.e. automated currency counters, calculator, projector, binding machine, other related office equipment)* Accurately type 25 words per minuteExperience:Nonessential:* No prior experience requiredEducation:Essential:* High School, GED or EquivalentEssential:* Must be currently enrolled in a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Scientist programCredentials:Essential:* Pass general background checkWorking Conditions:Essential:* Works in a hospital or clinic environment* Pass pre-employment drug test* Sometimes bend, kneel, stoop, push, reach* Use computer up to 50% of shift* Operate normal office equipment* Sometimes lift and or carry up to 50 lbs* Standing up to 50% of shift* Walking up to 50% of shiftTraining *It is the responsibility of each employee to attend required training for their position or profession as determined by their line of support (LOS) or the leadership of the Chickasaw Nation.
