It is in the applicant's best interest to submit materials as soon as possible.The job description is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change.QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent; ESSA certification required for all positions (Associates or higher degree, minimum of 72 college quarter credits, or ETS Test), excluding bus supervision duties only. Strong written and verbal English skills. WA State driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between schools if required. First Aid/CPR Certification required for health room duties, may be required for those with Special Education, playground, and behavior support duties. Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.Attachments: Current Resume, Cover Letter, 2 Letters of Recommendation and Paraprocert or College Transcripts.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Work with individuals or small groups to implement accommodations and support as defined by IEP for academics, recreational activities, etc.Attend to all student personal care needs as assigned throughout the educational environment (this might require transferring to and from wheelchair, toileting, diapering, personal hygiene and feeding)Provide motor therapy activities as requested and assigned by nurse, therapist, or teacherWork with severe needs and medically fragile childrenRecognize individual student needs and provide appropriate strategies and interventionAddress discipline in a positive manner per site procedureAct as a member of a student de-escalation/restraint teamAssist classroom teachersProvide library assistanceSupervision of playground, lunchroom, and busHealth room duties; lead or back up health room with appropriate trainingProvide small group/individual instruction for a variety of academics, as defined by student needsOperate bus lifts; load and unload wheelchairs; secure students in restraints, lap belts, etc.Monitor and maintain records and reports; correct and chart workPrepare materials and keep records as related to IEPDuplicate and construct site material; order equipment (e.g. health room, playground, library)Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff informationEstablish and maintain excellent rapport with visitors, staff, parents, students and administratorsFoster and maintain a safe and orderly environmentPossess knowledge of and enforce school district policies and proceduresAs requested, attend planning meetings with teachers and special service staffCommunicate effectively with students, parents and the school communityPerform other paraprofessional, non-custodial, job related duties as assignedMust be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodationREQUIREMENTS:Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performedExperience working with childrenSufficient strength, balance and mobility to safely transfer a motorically disabled person of 100 pounds in and out of a wheelchair with assistanceHave the physical ability to carry students (up to 75 lbs) and ability to climb or jump from emergency exitsAbility to work with children who have a variety of disabilitiesTrained in de-escalation/restraint of studentsWillingness to be trained in areas of duty and to learn new skillsEnthusiasm and appreciation of the unique individual characteristics of studentsAbility to work independently, work as a team player, respond to emergency situations, work in a stressful environmentEffective interpersonal/communication skillsAbility to use a variety of office equipment and input data and other information into school programsREASONABLE ACCOMMODATION: The Tumwater School District will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable Washington State law.
