Job Title: Manager - Transportation Fleet Wage/Hour Status: Exempt/At-Will Reports To: Assistant Director - Transportation Pay Grade/Days: 103/240 Dept./School: Student Transporation Services Date Revised: April 2024 Primary Purpose: Direct oversight of all fleet operations as well as highly skilled automotive mechanic work at the mastery level. The Fleet Manager will manage and operate a large parts storeroom and warehouse which serves as the principal supply point for mechanics and maintenance personnel. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED; successful completion of an approved automotive mechanic training program at the apprentice level; current ASE Certified Master Mechanic designation and CFC 12 certification (must maintain) Possession of a valid Texas CDL driver's license, Class B, with P and S endorsements (may be obtained within 180 days of hire date). Special Knowledge/Skills: Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; computer and peripherals; school bus and district vehicles. Experience: 5 years' experience working as a skilled mechanic in the maintenance and repair of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment, including experience in the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, air conditioning systems, and hydraulic systems. Major Responsibilities and Duties: * Effectively and efficiently manage and operate a large parts storeroom and warehouse which serves as the principal supply point for mechanics and maintenance personnel; order and issue parts, materials, and supplies; establish inventory levels. * Establish and implement inventory control procedures; maintain computerized inventories, records, and files. * Investigate vehicle accidents, attempting to determine if mechanical malfunction caused and/or contributed to the cause of the accidents; obtain the cost of parts required for repair. * Maintain and repair work vehicles including trucks, heavy equipment, and automobiles; complete work orders, inspections, and evaluations both in terms of time and cost. * Supervise and participate in receiving shipments of parts, materials, and supplies; verify invoices to ensure specification conformity and correct prices; store parts, materials, and supplies appropriately. * Supervise and participate in entering daily receipts and distributions of parts, materials, and supplies into the computer; prepare computerized records and reports of operations. * Prepare specifications for vehicle sublet repairs; assist with bids; locate and assign outside contractors for sublet repairs. * Plan, organize, assign, and review work of shop employees; participate in performance evaluation of garage employees. * Follow the Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws, and State/Federal regulations. * Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise shop employees. Equipment used: Radio communication equipment, computer, and intercom system.
