ESS Paraprofessional - Job DescriptionIrvington Public SchoolsUnder the direction of a certified classroom teacher and/or school administrator, ESS paraprofessionals supplement student education and assist classroom teachers with instruction, behavior management, and/or administrative duties. They support the physical, behavioral, and academic needs of a specific student or group of students with special needs throughout the school day.ResponsibilitiesParaprofessional is responsible for assisting in the implementation of a program of study to serve the educational needs of pupils, including special education, English as a Second Language, meeting the needs of students with disabilities and, under very limited circumstances, for regular education. Such responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the following:• Implements the teacher's written and/or verbal instructions when working with students in individual and small group sessions;• Provide redirection and implement behavior intervention plans/techniques (i.e., BIP/FBA's)• Collect ABC data for scholars in the ASD program/class (i.e., discrete trials)• Provides assistance with toileting/diaper changing for scholars (as needed)• Assists the teacher while the teacher is instructing students to reinforce material• Assist teacher with classroom tasks and material/room preparation, and maintenance• Implement accommodations as described in the IEP (i.e., read aloud; notetaking)• Accompanies the teacher when the entire class is taken from one location to another, i.e., media center, gym, library, computer center, cafeteria, auditorium, bathrooms, bus, field trips, etc.;• Remains with the class when the class is receiving instruction from subject area specialists, i.e., art, music, physical education;• Helps students organize themselves to participate in scheduled activities and dismissal under the teacher's direction;• Consults with the assigned teacher(s) in regard to each child's perceived educational strengths and weaknesses as well as successful teaching strategies;• Is familiar with the requirements of a student's IEP or 504 plan;• Assists in the correction of student assignments;• Participates in job-related staff development activities;• Performs other duties as student needs may dictate;• Performs other duties as designated by ESS, the School Principal/Assistant Principal, or Program Supervisor.Requirements• Must have a minimum of 60 college credits or two years of postsecondary study; experience working in special education and autistic settings strongly preferred.About ESSAs leaders in the education staffing space since 2000, ESS specializes in placing qualified staff in daily, long-term, and permanent K-12 school district positions including substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and other school support staff.
