Job Requirements The position is onsite with remote opportunities POSITION SUMMARY The Medication Safety Coordinator, under the direction of the Vice President of Pharmacy Services, manages the comprehensive and oversight of quality, compliance, and medication safety activities in Health First's Hospital Division. The Medication Safety Coordinator will foster cross-functional and system-wide relationships beyond the Inpatient Pharmacy department, actively collaborating in developing, implementing, and growing pharmacy quality, compliance, and medication safety initiatives. The Medication Safety Coordinator supports in the creation and administration of a comprehensive program to improve clinical outcomes, reduce organizational risk, and minimize patient harm. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES * Works with the leadership and applicable teams across the Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) to coordinate outcomes review and department projects as assigned to meet regulatory standards (i.e. The Joint Commission, Department of Health) as well as system and departmental projects and initiatives. * Assists Inpatient Pharmacy leadership with major survey preparation (i.e., Joint Commission, DOH Licensure, URAC etc.) and assists in the development of plans of correction, implementation strategies, and continuing oversight. * Supports the coordination and facilitation of performance improvement programs within inpatient Pharmacy across the Hospital Division, including but not limited to, monitoring statistical analysis and reporting and developing action plans. * Identifies trends for actual or potential Quality and Safety improvement opportunities based upon review and analysis of information/data and participates in the design and implementation of improvement/change. * Oversees the development, revision, and auditing of departmental policies and operational procedures related to compliance, accreditation, and performance improvement processes. * Aids in the development and revisions made to the Pharmacy Corporate Compliance Plan in conjunction with the Hospital Division Ancillary Department Billing and General Compliance Committee. * Creates and maintains standards, operational activities, and performance measurement tools that meet operational and market needs in the areas of quality improvement, compliance, and medication safety. * Coordinates and implements initiatives for the Pharmacy medication safety plan with communities and tertiary hospital(s) patient safety committees to create and maintain safe medication management within the pharmacy and other ancillary departments, while Serves as the chair of the Medication Safety Subcommittees. * Contributes in delivery of process improvement efforts designed to reduce medication errors, improve patient safety and infuse best medication- use practices throughout the system and oversees adverse drug reaction reporting activities. * Collaborates with leadership to support the implementation and administration of medication safety initiatives. * Reviews sources of new and revised medication safety guidelines regularly and determines applicability to the system and each entity, develops policies to ensure compliance, and educates stakeholders on the corporate and entity levels of changes implemented. * Manages data reporting and information related to all aspects of quality and medication safety. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (BPharm). * Work Experience:Any one of the following: o Five (5) years' progressive experience within the inpatient pharmacy setting OR o Equivalent experience in a related area of healthcare. * Licensure: Pharmacist licensure in the State of Florida. * Certification: None * Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: * Proficient in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. * Ability to coach and mentor other pharmacy associates on regulatory standards and best practices. * Thorough understanding of regulatory standards (i.e. The Joint Commission, Department of Health) as well as system and departmental projects and initiatives. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS * Education: Doctorate's degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping. * Long periods of computer time or at workstation. * Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance. * May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise. * Communicating with others to exchange information. * Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. * Workspace may vary from open to confined. * May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
